We strongly advise that women start having smears tests within 1 year of first sexual contact.
Smear tests are a quick and simple procedure that could save your life. 9 out 10 smear tests are reported normal but that doesn’t mean that the other 1% have cancer, in the vast majority of cases, but merely that cancer cells may develop some time in the future. Further treatment can then be given to stop abnormal cells developing further.
Smear tests are free to all women between the ages of 25-64 in conjunction with the National Cervical Screening Programme.
To register or to find out when your next free test is due go to www.cervicalcheck.ie for more information. If you are not eligible for a smear test but would still like to one we can provide you with a private smear. Please contact the surgery on (065) 6840388 for an appointment.
