At the Ennis Family Medical Centre we aim to provide the complete health care package to the male population. Irish males still have very high rates of heart disease, stroke and certain cancers compared to our European counterparts. We offer a full range of screening services for those conditions. Male depression and anxiety are a hidden problem in our society. We offer a sympathetic and confidential environment where such issues can be discussed and managed.
At the time of your appointment you will be asked to fill out a medical history questionnaire; nothing to hard just some general background such as any on-going medical conditions you might have, any medication you might be on at present and any surgery you may have had in the past.
Following this the nurse will take your blood pressure, check a urine sample for signs of infection and take a full range of blood tests including:
- Glucose (sugars)
- Blood count (iron levels, white cells, etc)
- Thyroid function
- Liver/Kidney function
- Others (depending on any personal or family history)
- An ECG ( a test which shows the electrical activity of the heart and looks for any abnormalities) may also be performed if deemed necessary by the GP
After this you will have a consult with one of our doctors with a full physical examination and to discuss any issue that might be troubling you. At the end of this consult the doctor may decide on a secondary referral such as to a consultant to fully address any issues that cannot be taken care of at GP level.
